What do we do?
Student Support For Emotional Health and Wellbeing
At Alchemy Schools we have our own Emotional Health and Wellbeing (EHWB) team, and Mental Health Lead. The Mental Health Lead is Molly Gould. Linked closely with the DSL and Pastoral Support Leads, the Mental Health Lead and EHWB mentors support students who are experiencing significant struggles with their emotional wellbeing. Sessions are completed on a 1:1, weekly basis, and focus on unpicking any emotional distress, identifying potential triggers to dysregulation, and progressing onto learning about appropriate regulation strategies. This support also extends to parents/carers too, with designated staff often helping to empower families to make meaningful changes.
Alchemy Schools also has a Mentor Programme. The team is made up of skilled and experienced mentors who support students through 1:1 sessions. Sessions are specific to the student and are centred around particularly challenges they want to address, learning the life skills to make meaningful changes. This includes work such as supporting students to develop their confidence to go into shops, learning more about road awareness, nurturing social skills, managing unfamiliarity more effectively, completing consequential thinking work, increasing independence etc. Mentors will develop a rapport with the students by dedicating their time to get to know them and focus on areas of interest.
Alchemy also offers the Drawing and Talking intervention; a 12-Week, early intervention programme.
Students who require additional mental health support, are also referred to external agencies including Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMHS). We all always gain consent from parents and young people prior to the referral being completed and remain in contact with the services to gain updates of the support being offered.
